I’ve been living in the mountains of Honduras for over two weeks now. My entire squad transitioned out of Guatemala at the end of April and with it brought a lot of changes.

New country.

New ministry.

New team.

New role.

After 10 crazy incredible weeks in Guatemala (a full blog on Guatemala to come), we headed out to serve in the mountains of Comayagua, Honduras for two months.

We are serving alongside Pastor Paul and Tania with Catracho Missions // Missions Door Honduras. Their purpose is to reach individuals and families living throughout the mountains of Comayagua. They are in the process of planting a church, woman’s training center, and missionary center.

The month of May has been all squad month meaning all 45 of us are living on the mountain where the church is being built. We are living alongside our hosts and our incredible Honduran friends. There are 20ish students serving for these two months as part of their bilingual schooling and it’s been really sweet to be in their space and build relationships with them.

We are living a sweet life of abandonment and simplicity here. Living in our tents. Cold river showers. One toilet for 60+ people. No electricity. No service.

While it’s a complete shift from the first months of the race, I couldn’t be happier with it.

The ministry is HARD work, physically we are literally scaling hills and mountains to gather wood for building, firewood for cooking, and bamboo to build the church. We’re breaking ground with pickaxes and digging holes. Chopping down trees with machetes. Hauling rocks and dirt and sandbags…you get the idea.

This Sunday we got to hold a service for the community on the grounds of the future church. How sweet to be a part of the first service that will soon be a space where people come and encounter Jesus.

The women on our squad have been able to be a part of a women’s workshop our host holds for women in the community to learn skills to support their family & learn about Jesus. We also went through the mountains to visit family’s homes, getting to pray over them and their houses, gift food, and in the weeks to come return to help them.

Alongside the change in country and ministry brought two more changes — the first team changes. For the first 4 months, I served with my team, Fuente de Vida. A powerhouse of 5 other girls on my squad. As we entered these two months, we received new teams and I have been stoked to serve with 5 new sisters on our team, Las Amadas (beloved ones).

The second is role changes. For the first 4 months, I was serving my squad in the roles of logistics. This included helping plan and coordinate traveling and accommodations for the squad, debriefs, and really all logistical-type things. I have now stepped into a season of team leading for Las Amadas. In short, this looks like diving deep into relationships with my girls, the squad, and the Lord + being a part of the team that communicates with our hosts.

LOTS of changes as you can see but it’s been really sweet to walk into this season with the Father, trusting and letting Him grow, refine and redeem parts of my story.

Prayers for our team and all the families in the mountains as we are in the midst of rainy season — a hard time for lots of people due to past damages to homes and crops from the hurricanes. Prayers for our incredible hosts as they walk in obedience to the Father. Prayers for energy in the midst of all the work we are doing and prayers for sweet connections and unity within our squad.

If you need me, you can maybe reach me via my number on WhatsApp…if I stand on a cement slab on top of the mountain and pray for service (:

all my love, kk
